For those of you who are interested in learning more about what can done to effect change in our libraries:
SafeLibraries, is a national organization that provides information regarding related laws, Supreme Court cases, and even news articles.
PABBIS, Parents Against Bad Books In Schools, provides a listing of many of the sexually graphic and age inappropriate books books, along with their actual excerpts, currently being made available to children through libraries and schools. This gives parents the opportunity to review the material in advance.
Facts on Fiction, also provides similar book reviews. Reviews are detailed with pages numbers.
Family Friendly Libraries provides information about libraries accross the country who are attempting to provide safe reading environment for families and their children. Their goal is to keep public libraries accountable to the taxpayers of their respective communities. They provide tools, information, and networking resources to citizens across the nation.

provides a great list of resources and ideas for those who are concerned about the practices and materials available in their own library.
American Library Association provides resources and information on how to promote banned books in local libraries.
(note there really aren't "banned" books, that would mean the government is prohibiting publication, however there are books that parents and communities have challenged.)
Office of Intellectual Freedom of the American Library Association serves as the legal and advisory arm for local libraries faced with book challenges.
